SWS, The Subway, and The Coex Mall

We decided that we were going to do the Seoul City Bus Tour today.  We researched it online and mapped out the sites on the route that we wanted to see.  We walked the brisk 10 minute walk to the nearest point on the route only to find out they are closed on Mondays.  Since we didn't have a Plan B as of that time, we went back to the hotel to regroup.  Matt researched the subway and we decided to do a dry run to SWS and visit the Coex Mall afterwards. we went.  It was another brisk 10 minute walk to the station.  We decided to take the shortest route on the map to SWS via the subway which meant we needed to change lines a few times during our journey.  We purchased our tickets and got on the subway.  Everything was easy to navigate as it was all in Hangul and English. Changing lines was tricky but luckily they have maps everywhere and I have quite the boy scout of a husband.  Finally we made it to our stop for SWS.  We weren't exactly sure where to go but we knew we were on the right block.  It didn't take us long to find it.  All in all, it took us about an our and a half to get there.  We then hopped back on the subway for a few more stops and found the Coex Mall.

The Coex Mall was an amazingly huge mall.  It has tons of stores and restaurants.  Many of them we have back in the states as well.  We thought the coolest thing by far was the Coex Aquarium.  On a whim we decided to check it out and it was very interesting!  They not only had fish but bats, spiders, turtles, penguins, alligators, rabbits, and much more.  Yes, that is a two headed turtle below.  We had a good laugh over the toilet photo.

To come home we decided to just stay on the green line (which is the one we started on but wasn't quite as direct as the path we had chose to come on earlier).  We decided that we would take this route tomorrow since it was only an hour vs an hour and a half like our trip earlier.  Turns out switching lines takes us a bit longer than we thought.  Good thing we did a dry run!  Tonight we are heading out to try some bulgogi and tomorrow morning we meet Minah!

  1. Awesome pics from the aquarium Beth. I laughed so hard when I saw that one of Matt in the shark's mouth. Do you guys have a guide there? I assume you probably do. Can't wait to see Minah!!!! Thanks for the update.

  2. Beth,

One more thing, was that a real fish in the toilet? Oh my goodness! :)

  3. Hi Beth

Great pictures from the aquarium! I am with Jonni, my favorite is Matt's head in the shark mouth! ha! I can't wait to see more pictures of Minah! She is a little cutie! I am so happy for you and Matt! I can't wait to read more! Thank you so much for sharing with us!

  4. We had the same problem--lots of things are closed on Mondays! I'm glad that you were still able to do something fun. We loved the Coex mall, but didn't go the aquarium. The kimchi museum there is pretty interesting, too! I can't wait to read your update on meeting Minah! I hope it goes just great. Thinking of you!

  5. Beth and Matt,

Your pictures are amazing! You are in my thoughts and prayers! I am so excited for you!
